Title

DESCRIPTION

Wojciech Wardecki graduated from West Point in 2026 as the 10th Polish Cadet to attend the United States Military Academy. He grew up in Szczytno in northeastern Poland. As a boy, he attended a boarding school in Olsztyn where he excelled academically, focusing on math, physics, and English. He then enlisted in the Polish Territorial Defense Forces (similar to the U.S. National Guard), on the 80th anniversary of the German invasion, for nine months. Seeking additional development, he enrolled in the Military University of Technology in Warsaw, which focused on combat support and logistics. There, he volunteered for an opportunity to study in the United States. After a rigorous selection process, he was chosen to attend the U.S. Military Academy. At West Point, his prior military training helped him adapt to the rigors of cadet basic training, though the language barrier was an initial challenge. Academically, he transitioned from Mechanical Engineering to Defense and Strategic Studies, a program he found inspiring. Wojciech was heavily involved in the Combat Weapons Team, where he became a top shooter and helped the team win a national championship. He also participated in the Vanguard Initiative competed in the annual Sandhurst competition. Wojciech’s time at West Point will extend his total military training to seven years. Upon returning to Poland, he plans to complete his master's degree and hopes to serve in the infantry or special operations forces. He reflects on West Point as a transformative experience that has prepared him for leadership, emphasizing the importance of humility and building relationships. He concludes by sharing a common sentiment: "West Point is not a great place to be, but it is a great place to be from."
